The Scoop On The Satellite Descrambler
A Satellite
descrambler is an electronic device used to descramble the premium
channel signals received through your home satellite dish. The
descrambler is often used as an alternative to paying the monthly
subscription fee per channel - or group of channels - you are charged
by your local provider. These descramblers use technology to break
through the encryption applied to the premium and pay-per-view channels.
Satellite television is delivered through open air waves. The signal is
beamed up to the satellites high above the Earth, and is then reflected
back down to the dish where the signal is received and transmitted into
your television. Some channels are free and some are premium. Free
channels are delivered to your television without the need for a
satellite descrambler. The satellite descrambler becomes necessary in
order to view premium channels such as HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Starz,
and more. Even pay-per-view channels can be descrambled through the use
of a satellite descrambler. These channels are encrypted by satellite
providers and are not descrambled unless you pay for them to do so.
So the big question becomes: is it legal to own a satellite
descrambler? It is perfectly legal to own a satellite descrambler; the
FCC allows citizens the right to own personal cable box equipment, and
will not allow the satellite provider to dictate what can or cannot be
used. However, each provider has its own encryptions and rules
governing the use of a satellite descrambler as an alternative to
paying a monthly service fee.
A satellite descrambler works in tandem with a satellite descrambler;
meaning two units are required to work together in order to actually
descramble the channels you wish to view. You can also purchase a
single unit satellite descrambler which has both descramblers
integrated into one unit. There are benefits to both systems.
The single unit satellite descramble is easier to install, often more
effective in converting the signal, and easier to put in place of the
existing box from your provider. The two unit satellite descrambler is
generally less expensive than the single unit, or combination
unit. It is also easier to upgrade and replace components should
it be required. However, the television picture received through the
two unit satellite descrambler is generally not as clear as it would be
using the combination unit.
Utilizing a personal satellite descrambler is an effective and legal
way to clearly receive premium channels – without paying a
monthly fee each month to your existing provider - and still maintain
your current basic plan. Although companies may – at some point -
upgrade the technology they use in transmitting signals from the dish
to the television, this would be a very infrequent occurrence; this
would be an incredibly costly and time-consuming process – most
companies would avoid the undertaking until absolutely necessary. The
biggest favor you can do for yourself is to select a reputable dealer
– one which guarantees to stand behind its products – to
help walk you through the process of selecting which satellite
descrambler is best for you and for your system.
